What is Laser Dentistry?

There are many ways laser technology can be used in dentistry. At Boileau Dental Care, we use a diode laser, which is also known as a soft-tissue laser. It is ideal for procedures that involve recontouring oral soft tissues or speeding the healing of oral infections, whether bacterial or viral, this includes cold sores.

How Does it Work?

Laser energy is attracted to colour wave lengths, and the diode laser is attracted to red, so gingival tissue is where it works best. The laser can concentrate its energy at the tip of the applicator, allowing it to cut or it can allow the energy to penetrate the tissue promoting healing on a cellular level. The energy penetrates without any discomfort.

Lasers are an effective and pain-free way of getting rid of those pesky cold sores more quickly. And cold sores will often reoccur less frequently and with less intensity. It is most effective when used as soon as a lesion appears.
